Professor Parveen June Kumar
Professor Parveen Kumar CBE, BSc, MD, FRCP, FRCP(E) is professor of medicine and education at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, and an honorary consultant gastroenterologist and general physician at Barts and the London NHS Trust.
She is a past president of the British Medical Association and the associate director for international education at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
Professor Kumar's main research interests are in small bowel disorders (particularly coeliac disease). She also has a major interest in education – undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing profsessional development (CPD). She developed and co-edits/authors a major textbook - Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine - for students and doctors, as well as other books.
In the past, professor Kumar has been the chairman of the Medicines Commission UK, a non-executive director of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), academic vice president and senior censor and the director of CPD at the Royal College of Physicians, and a non-executive director of an acute hospital trust. She was a trustee of Bart’s Medical College Trust and also CancerBackup until 2007
