Submissions should be in writing up to a maximum of 5,000 words on A4 paper (ie no more than six pages of A4, font size 12) with any reference and supporting materials (charts and pictures as appropriate). Entrants are asked to submit a curriculum vitae with their submission. A one-page executive summary of the submission confirming its compliance with the award requirements must be included.

A one-page executive summary of the submission confirming its compliance with the award requirements should be included. Submissions should be in writing up to a maximum of 5,000 words on A4 paper with support materials (charts and pictures as appropriate). A shorter submission accompanying for example, a computer program, tape or audio visual aid is acceptable. If you do submit in this format, seven copies are required for circulation to the judges.
Please note that candidates who are short-listed for the Communications award will be asked to give a presentation in person to the Bupa Foundation board. Short-listed candidates will be notified in writing about this.

Entries will be accepted from candidates on the basis of the submission of a complete piece of work in the format of a BMJ "original article" (See the BMJ website for more on this format) However, our word limit is 5,000 words on A4 paper.

Entrants must submit a full curriculum vitae containing:
- a full list of publications
- a list of their best five published papers with a short statement of less than 30 words on their contribution and why the work is important
- a statement of less than five pages on past work and
- a statement on how the prize money will be used to further their work or begin new projects
